As soon as we have a program for Orange Fair it will be posted on the SollerWeb Calendar/Events page - the program is usually only published some time in March.

Orange Days are a gastronomic and cultural affair which sees many restaurants in Sóller and the Port de Sóller, participating to provide citrus menus to celebrate.

The orange trees’ introduction to the Soller valley dates back to the 10th century when the Arabs began planting a sour and bitter orange for the trees to grace their gardens and patios. They loved the perfume of the orange blossom. Half a millennia later, in the early 16th century, the sweet orange was hauled from its native land of India, across The Silk Road, on to the ships of the Portuguese, and finally to the ports of Mallorca.

Two hundred years later, the sweet orange trees flourished in Sóller Valley, and Soller oranges were transported to mainland Europe and even across the Atlantic to the Americas.

The Sóller economy boomed during this time thanks to the orange and olive trees, but a plague took its toll on the trees around 1865. The resulting famine saw many farmers leave for France and other parts of the world. Fortunately, the early 20th century brought new life to the trees and, with it, the farmers, trees and economy back to Sóller.

The Valley of the Orange is celebrated every year with a weekend fiesta and special menus.

Today, the shimmering oranges of Sóller are not just a commodity but a symbol of the valley's resilience and cultural heritage. Visitors from far and wide come to experience the radiant beauty and fragrant allure of the blossoming orange groves. As the fair unfolds, the streets come alive with vibrant processions, storytelling sessions, and traditional dances, all paying homage to the beloved fruit that has shaped the lives of many in this picturesque corner of Mallorca. The Orange Fair and Orange Days are a testament to the enduring legacy of the oranges, celebrating not just their culinary delights, but their historical significance and the indomitable spirit of the Sollerics.
